"Don't take things personally! You are not the center of teenagers' lives, although you can be an important piece. Realize that you are having an impact, even if you don't think you are. Actually share with them about your job so they get a sense of what it is like to work and not always necessarily have your way. Also, teach them about financial responsibility, so that working and getting things are connected. We share with our 17 year old how much money we have for "fun" things that week and then get his input on how he'd like us to spend it. But once the money is gone, it's gone. While we don't tell him what our salaries are, we do let him know that things cost money and that working allows us to have choices about what we'd like to--as well as have to--do in our lives. Also, share with your kids that work can be fun!"
