"No matter how tired you are when you get home, take time to just spend quality time with your child. My house is a mess a lot more than I'd like it to be, but my son doesn't notice that, he notices that I'm spending time playing blocks with him or dancing. Moments that I'll cherish forever!"

Reinvigorating the Job You Used to Love
by Angela Baca, 1/12/2008

Job satisfaction is an important quality of life factor for many people. After you have been in your job awhile, it is possible to become dissatisfied with the same old routines. There may be other reasons why you want to switch jobs. In the current job market, it can be difficult to find a new job.

Here are a few strategies for reinvigorating the job that you currently have in order to make it pleasant to come to work every day.

1. Take on new responsibilities. If you are really good at what you do and a little bored, consider approaching your supervisor for a few additional duties. It will give you a way to improve your skills while increasing your value to the company.

2. Get to know employees in other departments. Making new friendships is a way to introduce variety to your day. You can establish new connections with people who are just acquaintances. If you already know everyone, then try getting to know people better. Offer assistance and do favors for people. This effort can make your day more pleasant.

3. Write a job manual for your position. Although you want to keep this job, if you have decided to leave, writing a manual for how to do your job will be valuable for the employer. Don’t give your reasons for writing it. Instead, tell your boss and your coworkers that you are preparing it in case something ever happened to you or you got promoted.

When thinking about your present job, it is important to focus on the good things about it. Dwelling on the negative aspects of your job will defeat you in the long run. Your poor attitude can come across to your supervisor, coworkers, and customers. Letting that happen could end up getting you fired. A job is an important asset in a tight economy. Remember that you are lucky to have one.
